I have used my images to create a final piece on my take of architecture. To start off, I wanted to create something that looked fun and unrealistic as I found throughout the project that I don't really like the look of standard buildings. We used photoshop to put different images together and create something that was meaningful to us. I thought that I would use the image of the school with the grass and mushrooms as a background layer on photoshop. I had to lighten the image and change the colours slightly as the original image was dark and, it would have resulted in a dreary image which I didn't want to use. I like this image as it shows the man-made architecture as well as the nature and the contrast between them both really stood out to me. When I applied the thirds grid, I saw how the mushroom in the bottom right fit on one of the perpendicular lines within the grid. This showed me how the mushroom could stand out as your eyes become focused on it. Next, I added the lightning/ swirl image in the top left corner. This was an image from my experimenting with light lesson and I thought that I could use it to create a magical effect. On photoshop, I had to change the levels of the image so the background would almost disappear but remained to create a hidden aspect within the image. I then transformed the image to resize and rotate it so it would be in the perfect place. I made sure that It was somehow on the third line or on the golden ratio spiral. I would have thought this would make the lightning look more effective however, it doesn't really fit on one of the lines. I could have distorted one of the lines or swirled it on photoshop so that it fit within the spiral. I wanted to include an image from my belgrave road series that would look better than what it did in real life. Most of my images included buildings until I came across my image of an old door (bottom right). I intended on making it look like the door for the mushroom however, the stalk was too thin. I then decided to put it in he corner of my image and change the shape of it. I used the warp and distort tool on photoshop to make it an abnormal shape. Then, I changed the colour levels of it and made it red so that it contrasted against the green grass. I thought that it stood out too much so I lowered the opacity of it so that it slightly blended into the grass. I like the effect of how you can see the grass through the door as it looks like the door is fading away. Going along with the theme of unrealistic and magical, I thought that it would be interesting to add a person sitting on the mushroom. I used this photo of a friend from when we were taking wrong photos inspired by John Baldessari and I had to change it slightly as she was standing straight. I used the transform tool to change the size and rotated it so that it fitted correctly. Then, I used the distort tool to change the shape of her legs to make it look as if she was sitting with her legs hanging off. I do like the idea of adding her in however, the colours are different to the rest of the image and she doesn't fit in. I would change the colours and contrast of her next time to make it look as if she is actually there. As our project was architecture, I had to include buildings. On the far left, I added an image of an old victorian house. I made the colour of it purple because I wanted it to blend in with the windows in the back. I like this building in the image as you can see the difference between victorian and modern architecture since this building is victorian and the background building is modern. My favourite part of my final piece would have to be the building that is in the centre 'the grand hotel'. I took this image from when I was taking images from around the city centre and had loved this architecture as it has so much detail and just looks amazing. I wanted to include this as it looks grand and is the type of architecture that appeals to me. I had transformed the building to make it fit perfectly and then I adjusted the colours to make it fit in. What I like the most is the bottom of the building. I liquified it to make it blend in with the grass as I thought that it looked a bit simple; it made an immediate difference and it gives a weird twist to the image. Furthermore, you can see how the tip of the building hits the thirds lines and this makes the building look more powerful as you go from seeing the tip of the building and then your eyes drag out to the rest of it. You can also see how this building and the one to the right meet at a cross on the thirds grid. This makes it effective as you can see the differences clearly and I wanted to show how architecture is unique. Finally, I used another image that I took in city centre and added it to my final piece as it made it look more stronger and it filled it the gap in nicely. I used the perspective tool to change the way it bent and the angle of it to make it look as if it was on the floor. I then had to alter the colour of it so that it also matched with the floor. I made it a red-ish colour as the pavement was red but also as a contrast to the green grass. I used a tool on photoshop that allowed me to merge this building with the previous building, making it look as if it is joint so that it looked real. I really like how the golden ratio spiral comes into one of the bushes on the building as the shape of the bush is almost fitted along the spiral lines. I think that this makes it a strong image as your eyes follow the bigger aspects of the image and then follow the spiral, making it almost easier for you to point out the little, unnoticed objects. Our wrong images inspired by John Baldessari helped me with my final piece. I knew what was wrong and what would result in an image that was compositionally wrong therefore I made sure I didn't apply this to my final piece. I had originally placed a building right in the middle of my final piece however, I had realised that it didn't really make it effective so I had changed the shape of it and it ended up working. Also, I knew how to place my buildings in a way that it matched the rule of thirds as I had practiced on how to not make it wrong. This makes my final piece strong as it looks eye catching and it has many composition rules within it. If I were to change or redo my final piece, I would take into consideration more of the composition aspects. I would want to include the rule of thirds and golden ratio but also have leading lines. Furthermore, I would definitely make it out of my comfort zone and decide to do things that I wouldn't have even thought of doing in my first final piece.
