Photographers take images based on things that are around them such as nature, buildings, and even such strange objects for example, an apple. All of these things seem so normal yet they are represented in a way that makes them seem different. This is all done intentionally to 'flatter the audience.' They take images that they know will please the viewer so, someone that likes apples would obviously be satisfied with an image of an apple whereas people that like nature will be happy with an image of a landscape, and so on.
David LaChapelle
A photographer who doesn't flatter the audience is David LaChapelle. He makes his images abnormal which makes the viewer uncomfortable seeing them since they are not what you would generally see. He can flatter the audience in a way as he shows people and doesn't photoshop them to the idea of 'beauty'. This inspires people to be proud of who they are.
